Virtual World, Real Crime
My inworld avatar friend has been robbed in excess of L$2,600. The amazing thing is that the thief who did it was able to do so through some SMS Text phones that she had on two of her commercial properties. Because those phones have a preset amount that pays out to the creator/owner, the thief was only able to steal in L$50 incements. The thief took money more than 50 times from two different phones over the last four days. Because my friend deals in high volumes she did not realize that money was being taken until it happened while she was online. She immediately tp’d to the location and caught the person in the act. Of course the thief tp’d out of there but we know who it is and have notified Linden Labs, the Press and the SLPD. The thief has 10 inworld aliases as well. The sad thing is that my friend is probably not the only one this has happened to. Word to the wise. Watch your money carefully. Particularly when you have onsite vending machines that automatically take money from you.
